In a way, pipx turns the Python Package Index (PyPI) into an app marketplace for Python programmers. I guess, in my head, pip had already evolved into more of a generic term with the advent of pip-tools, pipx, pipenv, etc. pipxu is a re-implementation of most of the functionality of the popular pipx tool but is much faster because it uses uv to create and install application virtual environments instead of venv and pip as used by pipx. It is built on top of pip, the Python package installer, and provides additional functionalities.
